I am currently arranging bookings for Ged Duncan’s school visits during the 2009-2010 school year. The cost of a visit is very low to the school as Ged prefers to offer a book signing after school, where children and their parents can buy discounted copies of the books.

All three of his books have been in the top 10% of book sales from amazon.co.uk and Ged has given readings from them at Waterstones, Borders, Writers’ Groups, and many schools across the south of England. They feature a young boy and girl who have adventures with a tiny and comical smuggler who can speak only in rhyme. Set in the present and in the time of the smugglers, they include time-travel, comedy, adventure and insight into the world of smuggling.

Ged is able to tailor a visit to your needs, but is available to take up to two forty-minute afternoon classes, for year 4 to 6. He can read from the books, introduce C18th smuggling using role play, and has a number of participatory smuggling songs which he performs on an archtop ukulele. He can also contribute to Literacy text level work: understanding how writers create imaginary worlds; how settings influence events and incidents; identifying social, moral or cultural issues in stories, and so on.

In terms of the school’s contribution, we ask that you purchase five sets of the trilogy for use in Literacy, the Library or for classwork. (£60, a discount of £15) There is no further cost to the school. But we are committed to reaching the whole spectrum of schools. If funds are very limited we are sometimes able to arrange for a visit, particularly where other schools in the area are participating as well.

Would you like Ged to visit your school or cluster? Let me know if you are interested and I will send you a sample copy of one of the books, and give you any further information you may require,
